I Heart NOLA

Ok. This is hard. Who wants to go back to school after the best Spring Break ever? No one. I won't write too much now because 1. I have to go to bed and 2. I don't want to reminisce so soon. All I will say is that New Orleans stole my heart. It is a wonderful, beautiful city that stands forgotten after such a disaster as Katrina. New Orleans needs help. Fast. The entrance to the city (what you see from the highway before entering) resembles a war zone. Everything stands just like Katrina left it: destroyed, desolated, resembling a war zone. Nothing brings back memories of the anguish that this hurricane brought to the people of New Orleans like seeing "HELP" written on a roof top. Remember that all the houses and apartments in this area were submerged under water after the levees broke. The landscape is horrible and heartbreaking. A war zone. What is worse of all is that all this happened more than a year ago (more than a year ago!!) and that the government of this country, possibly the richest and most powerful in the world, has neglected and forgotten this city and its inhabitants like it has. Do you hear this Bush? Very little, next to nothing, has been done. And New Orleans needs help. One can only wonder why the city has not been re-biult, why they are not getting the money that they need and why there are so many people there still living in FEMA RV's. Could it be because of its predominantly African American population? Because LA is a poor state? Why? One can only speculate. All I can do is encourage people to visit this great city. Its really beautiful. It has such a European flair and ambience that I frequently asked myself, is this the US? From the narrow streets to the wrought iron balconies to the names of the streets in Frech and Spanish to the many people that walk down the streets and the street performers everything says Europe. Visit NOLA and enjoy all that it has to offer: great food, beautiful landcapes, antique architecture, great shopping, and good-for-the-soul jazz.
